Alumni Award for Outstanding Achievement in Community Service - 2000
Arriving from Sicily in 1951, Andrew Gullotta studied Pharmacy at the University of Sydney. In 1964 he opened a Pharmacy in Matraville which, from its inception, became an "Honorary Italian Consulate". Andrew gave of his time generously to provide information and advice to Italian migrants. He was appointed a "Cavaliere d Ufficiale" Knight Commander of the Italian Republic on the occasion of the 53' Anniversary of the Italian Republic, in honour of his services to the Australian/Italian Community.
Mr Andrew Gullotta has been a Councillor of the Pharmacy Practice Foundation, and the Pharmacy Alumni Association, since its inauguration in 1984. He was also a staunch supporter of the Department of Pharmacy becoming a Faculty. Over the years Andrew became involved in Pharmacy politics and in 1990 was elected to the Council of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia (NSW Branch), a position he still holds. He has presented many papers overseas on intravenous Drug Use and Needle Syringe Exchange programs and has been involved in research in this field at the Faculty of Medicine, Sapienza University in Rome.
