GRADUATED IN THE 1990s
Mathew Bieniek (BMus '99 MMus(Comp) '02)  is a composer. In 2003 he represented Australia at the International Society for Contemporary Music World Music Days 2003, and won a worldwide competition. He was commissioned to write a piece which premiered at the Gaudeamus Music Week in Amsterdam in September 2005.

James Chegwidden (BA '99 LLB '04)  teamed up with another University of Sydney graduate, Garetj Tilley (BA '01 LLB '04) in the Oxford University Moot Competition sponsored by Shearman & Sterling. Forty Oxford teams participated in the sudden death competition, on a question nof restitutionary damages. Fortunately, James and Gareth won! The final was against Brasenose College, Oxford and was judged by Justice Paul Walker of the High Court on 11 February 2006. James and Gareth are now both studying for the degree of Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) at Oxford.

Paul Cooper (BOccT '96) is the Rehabilitation Services Manager at Ridgecrest Regional Hospital, Ridgecrest, CA (USA). Cooper has been a Ridgecrest resident since 1998.

Marilyn Dodkin (MA '90)  graduated with a PhD at Macquarie University in 2001. Since then she has published three books. They are: Brothers: Eight Leaders of the Labor Council of New South Wales (UNSW Press 2001); Bob Carr: The Reluctant Leader (UNSW Press 2003); and Goodnight Bobbie: One Family's War (UNSW Press 2006).

Avrum Ehrlich (PhDArts '97) was appointed Professor of Jewish Philosophy at the University of Shandong, China. Prior to that he completed a post doctorate at Cambridge University (Clare Hall). Avrum is now editor-in-chief of the Encyclopaedia of the Jewish Diaspora, due for publication next year.

Bryan Gaensler (BSc '94, BSc Hons '95, PhD '99) is one of Australia's most brilliant young scientists, currently making his mark on the universal stage through his work as a Professor of Astronomy at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachussetts. He has been offered an ARC Federation Fellowship to return to the University of Sydney in 2006.

Matthew Gerber (BCom '97 MInternatStud '02) recently returned from a posting with the Department of Foreign Affairs as second secretary at the Australian High Commission in Islamabad, Pakistan. Matthew is now back in Canberra and working on East Timor issues. His wife Elizabeth Grady (BA '96) lives in Yass and they are expecting their first child in March 2007.

Akilan Krishnamoorthy (BSc '98 BE (Aeronautical) '60) has worked as a design engineer with BAE Systems, and in August 2001 moved to GKN Aerospace Engineering Services. During his career with BAE Systems and GKN he spent significant time overseas on various military and commercial aircraft programs, including working at Lockhead Martin in Fort Worth, Texas. Akilan is currently working on the A380 program with EADS in Germany.

Anita Larkin (BVA '93) was recently awarded a resident artist position at the Wollongong City Art Gallery. The award provides her with a studio space at the gallery for a year, $3,000 towards material costs, and a solo exhibition of her artwork at the gallery from 23 June to 9 July 2007.

Jeffrey Looi (MBBS '92)  was a Fullbright Visiting Scholar in 2005. He continues as a visiting professor at the Laboratory of Neuro Imaging, Department of Neurology, UCKS School of Medicine, and remains based in Canberra. He will conduct further MRI neuro imaging research at the Karolinska Institute in September 2006.

Rev. Dr Robert McFarlane (PhD '96) has just graduated with a Master of Educational Leadership (Education & Work) at Macquarie University. He also received the Vice-Chancellor's commendation for academic excellence. This study program has greatly assisted him in his work as director of continuing education for the Uniting Church in Australia (NSW Synod), in conducting leadership development programs within the church, and in leading changeoriented working groups.

Shazia Naser Ud Din (DipPHlthDent '96) reports she has been promoted to associate professor and head of the orthodontic department at Fatima Jinnah Dental College in Karachi, Pakistan. She has published a book, Concepts in Orthodontics, for undergraduates in dentistry, and co-chaired the scientific committee at the Asia Pacific Dental Congress 2006.

Robert Shobbrook (MSc '96) retired from the University of Sydney Astronomy Department in 1994. He then continued research at Siding Springs Observatory as an honorary observatory visitor at the Australian National University. Robert lived near the observatory (outside Coonabarabran) from 1996 to August 2005. Robert moved to Canberra in September 2005.
