Frequently asked questions

What would the new buildings be like at Callan Park parkland campus?

The detailed design of buildings has not begun, but the design principles being finalised would require new buildings to be inspirational in design and sympathetic to the existing heritage buildings and landscape. The height of buildings would be consistent with the land use plan, providing public connections through the new campus to Kirkbride and the waterfront. Maintaining and enhancing key vistas would be critical.

What does the University intend to do with the trees that are not part of the heritage gardens?

We would engage a specialist Heritage Landscape Consultant to develop a Landscape Master Plan based on the Tanner Conservation Management Plan. This would provide a framework for the restoration of heritage gardens and the landscaping of the site, enhancing existing views and vistas.

Would there be security at Callan Park and would this stop community access?

As at our current campuses, we believe the best form of security results in having an active and vibrant campus, open to students and the community. The current proposal would establish a dynamic campus in a parkland environment. The University has security staff to protect property and people, not prevent community access.

How many staff and students would be using the Callan Park parkland campus?

We have yet to determine exactly which mix of activities could be located on the Callan Park parkland campus as this will be the subject of consultation within the University community. Under the proposal as previously indicated, the campus would cater for up to 5,000 students and 400 staff. At the moment there are 700 students enrolled at our Sydney College of the Arts.

What sorts of students would be using the Callan Park parkland campus?

The student population studying at Callan Park campus would be similar to the student bodies at our other campuses.

Where is Callan Park?

The map below shows the Identified Precincts from the Draft Land Use Plan. The Plan proposes that the University would lease Precincts 2,3,5 and 6 for the campus.

The boundaries of the Identified Precincts shown above are indicative only, and should not be considered as an official planning document.
