All courses at the University of Sydney are available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, but Block mode courses offered by the Koori Centre, Yooroang Garang and the School of Public Health are only open for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The Cadigal Special Entry Program has been developed to increase Indigenous Australian students’ chances of gaining entry to the mainstream course of their choice. If you want to know more about our courses, please contact the Koori Centre, Yooroang Garang: School of Indigenous Health Studies, School of Public Health (Graduate Diploma in Indigenous Health Promotion) and the Department of Rural Health at Broken Hill for information or look at the faculty handbooks on-line, which provide all of the details for each course run at the University.
There are a number of block-mode or away-from-base courses for Indigenous Australian students which are offered in education, health and health promotion at the University.
This mode of study enables students to travel to the campus a number of times each year for intensive 'blocks' of study, which are normally one or two weeks long. The remainder of the time students live in their communities while they complete the projects and assessment tasks required for each 'block'.
The cost of travel, accommodation and meals is covered by funding from the Commonwealth Department of Education, Science and Training.
Yooroang Garang runs a preparatory program in Aboriginal Health Sciences delivered in block mode which helps Indigenous Australian students prepare for tertiary study in this area.
If you are interested in studying subjects or units of study that cover Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues or have Indigenous Australian content, please see lists of subjects below which we have located by using 4 basic keywords.
