Applicants with overseas qualifications and English language proficiency
Overseas qualifications
The information contained on this page is for domestic students (ie, citizens of Australia, permanent residents of Australia or citizens of New Zealand). If you are not a domestic student you should contact the International Office for information about entrance requirements and the application procedures.
If you have academic qualifications from a country other than Australia you may be able to use them for admission into an undergraduate course. The University will consider results from certain senior secondary and tertiary qualifications for admission.
If you have completed a senior secondary qualification which is recognised by the University you may use it to apply for admission to undergraduate courses. Many senior secondary qualifications from around the world are recognised by the University, including many of those offered in Europe and North America, and also a selection of others from countries elsewhere in the world. In general, only academic senior secondary qualifications can be used for admission, not technical or vocationally-oriented secondary qualifications.
A summarised list of overseas secondary qualifications accepted by the University is available. The list also includes countries from which only tertiary study will be considered. If you cannot locate the country in which you studied you may contact the Admissions Office for assistance.
For those countries whose senior secondary qualifications are not recognised, results from a period of enrolment of one full-time year or more in length in a degree course at a recognised institution can normally be considered. Results from a period of enrolment in an award course below the (equivalent) level of a bachelor degree will not normally be considered.
Please note that not all qualifications from international colleges and universities will be accepted for admission to undergraduate courses. This is due in part to the highly variable quality of tertiary qualifications from overseas institutions. If you would like to find out whether your results for an enrolment in a tertiary qualification from overseas will be considered you may contact the Admissions Office. You can also contact us if you believe your qualifications are not acceptable and you would like to discuss how to improve your chances of admission by undertaking some further study.
If you have been educated overseas you may need to sit an English test to demonstrate your proficiency in English. See below for further information.
Demonstrating English language proficiency
All applicants for the University's undergraduate courses are required to demonstrate proficiency in English to be considered for admission. You may be required to sit an English test if you have completed part or all of your studies overseas. You will not have to sit a test if you have attempted certain qualifications in Australia or certain other countries.
A list of the qualifications, which the University can accept in place of an English test result, can be viewed on this site. If the information you require is not contained in this section, or if you require further advice, you may contact the Admissions Office.
