Before you arrive in Sydney

  • Our Accommodation Database is available to all students. However, you cannot use the Database until have enrolled and have your ‘Unikey’ and password from the University, or until you are able to visit our office with your letter of offer so that we can assist you in person.
  • Do not accept long-term off-campus accommodation before you arrive in Sydney. It is very important to inspect properties in person as there are some companies and individuals who offer accommodation over the internet, ask you for a deposit but then do not provide the accommodation.
  • Research types of properties available in Sydney and compare rental costs before you arrive. Go to Other Search Options section for general websites to search. Also see the Living in Sydney page for information about transport, Sydney suburbs and setting up a home.
  • Book short-term accommodation for your first few weeks in Sydney so that you have time to search for long-term accommodation. Go to the Casual accommodation page for more information.
  • If you are bringing your family to Australia, renting a property is the best option.

After you arrive in Sydney

  • Go to the International Student Support Unit (ISSU) website to find out when the next Housing Information Session is on – these sessions will give you all the information you need about finding a suitable place to live. They will show you how to use the Accommodation Database.
  • Once you enrol you will be provided with your Unikey and password – you can then start searching the Accommodation Database online.
  • Once you're in Sydney you can start visiting properties that you are interested in - See the Off-campus accommodation page for more information about searching for, and inspecting, properties.
