Student Administration and Support
The Student Administration and Support Division is responsible for the provision of integrated student administration, support and development services focused on students' academic and personal needs throughout their academic career. Student Administration and Support provides expert advice to Faculties and other areas of the University in the management of students at risk, critical incidents, and other circumstances that impact on student welfare. Student Administration and Support is involved in the development and provision of orientation and transition programs. Student Administration and Support contributes to the University meeting statutory obligations under State and Commonwealth legislation. Student Administration and Support is located within the DVC (Education) portfolio.
The Director Student Administration and Support provides leadership and policy advice on all matters relating to student support, orientation and transition and equity services at the University. The Director Student Administration and Support is responsible for the following Services:
- Office of the Director Student Administration and Support providing leadership, policy advice and management of student administration and support services and student issues.
- Careers Centre – provides careers advice services to current students and new graduates. The Centre provides workshops, careers management modules within faculties, CV checking, and individual careers advice sessions. The Centre also manages Careers Centre and employer relationships.
- Counselling Service providing short-term, problem-focussed assessment and management of students’ personal and University-related problems. The Counselling Service is also involved in response to crisis and critical incidents involving students.
- Equity Support Services bringing together a number of student support services that provide practical assistance and information to support students in meeting their academic and personal goals while at University. These Services are:
* Disability Services facilitating students with disabilities having access to facilities and services that minimise the adverse effect of their disability.
* Financial Assistance Office providing interest free loans and bursaries to students in financial need.
* Accommodation Service providing students with information regarding accommodation options and a listing service of private rental accommodation.
* Child Care Information Office providing information about children's services for students and staff of the University. - International Student Support Unit assisting International students develop successful strategies for coping with the challenges of living and studying in an unfamiliar culture, to achieve success in their studies and to make the experience of being an international student rewarding and enjoyable.
- Multifaith Chaplaincy Centre - Visiting chaplains are professional women and men who have been appointed by their faith community and officially recognised by the University to provide spiritual support and pastoral care to students and staff on campus. Whilst chaplains are part of the University life, they are not employees of the University.
- Student Centre – provides a student enquiry counter and student administration services including admissions, enrolment, HECS and charges processing, student records, timetabling, examinations, exclusions and graduations.
- Orientation - Student Administration and Support coordinates the Sydney Welcome Orientation and Transition (SWOT) Program and the International Student Orientation. Student Administration and Support liaises with the University of Sydney Union (USU) regarding the O-Week activities of the Student Organisations. Student Administration and Support staff also participate in the Post Graduate student orientations managed by the Dean of Graduate Studies. Ongoing transition support activities are provided throughout the academic year.
